The Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana Gramin is back in the news as several Uttar Pradesh districts begin releasing housing assistance to newly verified families. In Mathura, 511 fresh beneficiaries have been selected for the current financial year, and the district administration has cleared the path for the first instalment of Rs 40,000 to reach them for construction of a pucca house.
What the scheme offers
Under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana Gramin, economically weaker and houseless rural families are given financial help to build a permanent home. The total assistance is Rs 1.20 lakh, released in three instalments as construction progresses. The first instalment is Rs 40,000, credited directly to eligible beneficiaries after block-level verification.
Mathura: 511 families cleared
For this financial year, applications were invited with special priority for nomadic communities, the Sapera caste, and destitute women. A total of 589 people applied. After block-level scrutiny of eligibility and scheme conditions, 511 applicants were found eligible. The district has prepared the list and sent it to the state government, and the Gramya Vikas Abhikaran (District Rural Development Agency) has begun the process of releasing the first instalment, with a fund demand sent to the state headquarters.
Balrampur: zero-poverty verification underway
In Balrampur district, the focus is on “zero poverty” families who still lack a permanent home. According to the rural development department, 8,257 families have been identified under the zero-poverty drive. Of these, 7,022 have already received benefits and are on the permanent eligibility list, while 1,235 families are still awaiting inclusion.
Verification of these remaining families is now in progress across 793 gram panchayats, with block development officers made responsible. As reported, the block-wise verification numbers include Balrampur 181, Gaisari 303, Pachpedwa 282, Tulsipur 301, Haraiya Satgharwa 125, Gaindas Bujurg 32, Utraula 8, and Rehra Bazar 3.
Who is being prioritised
- Families with no pucca (permanent) house of their own
- Zero-poverty households identified under the poverty-elimination drive
- Nomadic communities, Sapera caste, and destitute women
- Widows, divyang (differently-abled), and other vulnerable sections, as flagged in state coverage
What beneficiaries should do
Selected applicants should ensure their verification is complete at the block level and that their bank and Aadhaar details are correct, since the instalment is released to the verified list. Those who believe they qualify but are not yet included should check with their gram panchayat or block development office, as verification of pending zero-poverty families is still ongoing.
